Extras: M after a letter gives ं (anusvara), MM gives ँ (chandrabindu), H gives ः, ^ gives a halant (्). Capital letters matter: T D N Sh are ट ड ण ष.

Nepali typing – frequently asked questions
How do I type Nepali using English letters?
Click the box and type a word phonetically, for example ramro. When you press space it becomes राम्रो. Press Backspace straight after to turn it back into Roman letters and edit it, or tap one of the suggestions above the box to pick another spelling.
Is this Nepali Unicode?
Yes. The text is standard Unicode Devanagari, so it can be pasted into Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, Google Docs, Word, email and websites and will display correctly on phones and computers.
How do I type ट, ठ, ड, ढ, ण and ष?
Use capital letters for the retroflex sounds: T = ट, Th = ठ, D = ड, Dh = ढ, N = ण and Sh = ष. Lowercase t, th, d, dh, n and sh give त, थ, द, ध, न and श.
How do I type conjuncts like क्ष, त्र and ज्ञ?
Type them as they sound. ksh or x gives क्ष, tr gives त्र, gy gives ज्ञ, and any two consonants typed together join automatically, for example ramro gives राम्रो and swatantra gives स्वतन्त्र. Add ^ after a consonant to force a halant, for example k^ gives क्।
How can I type English words inside Nepali text?
Press Ctrl+Space or use the mode button to switch between Nepali and English while typing. To convert a pasted or existing paragraph, wrap any English words in curly braces, like {WhatsApp}, and press Convert all Roman text.
Does it work on mobile phones, and is my text private?
Yes, it works in any modern mobile or desktop browser. Everything runs in your browser; your text is not sent to a server. A draft is kept only in your own browser storage so you do not lose it, and the Clear button removes it.
