Disable Notifications in Chrome and Firefox

Websites use browser notification system to send updates and messages to the visitors. Browser notification are made for notifications like meeting reminders and important updates from websites. But sometimes websites are allowed to send you notifications unknowingly. In this article we will discuss how to remove such annoying notifications in Chrome and Firefox and also how to completely disable notification in Chrome and Firefox.

When do we start getting notifications?

So, how do we get notifications from the websites. By default, web browsers alert us whenever a website wants to send any notifications.

Either intentionally or unknowingly, when allowed, you start getting notifications from the websites. So, think twice whenever your browser alerts and prompts about any sites asking for notification.


What can we do to get rid of these annoying notifications?

In Chrome:

  • Go to chrome settings > Privacy and security > Site settings
  • Under the permissions go to Notifications.
  • The list of already allowed sites will be displayed under ‘Allowed to send notifications.
  • Click on the 3 vertical dots on the right of each item then click Remove

In Firefox:

  • Go to Firefox settings > Privacy and security > Site settings
  • Under the permissions locate Notifications and go to Settings.
  • The list of already allowed sites will be displayed.
  • Simply click Remove All Websites or remove individual websites from the list
  • Click Save Changes

How to completely disable websites from asking for notification?

In the notification settings, simply click Don’t allow sites to send notifications


In Firefox:

In the notification settings, simply check Block new requests asking to allow notifications and click Save Changes.
